Prandin® Harmonizes with Your Lifestyle

If you are just starting therapy with PRANDIN® (repaglinide) Tablets PRANDIN® works in harmony with your lifestyle. That's because, after each meal, you "treat when you eat." Take the dosage your doctor has specified with every meal. Prandin is only taken before meals. If you miss a meal, you should skip that dose. Just take your usual dose the next time you eat. Prandin is safe to take 2,3, or 4 times daily before you eat, up to a maximum of 16 mg per day. Keep in mind that a "meal" is any combination of foods eaten together—even those you consider to be "snacks" that add up to more than 240 calories. If there are usually more than 4 such "meals" in your day, consider speaking to a nutritionist.

If you are already using PRANDIN®
A medication can only work when it is taken properly. That's why it's important to take your doses of PRANDIN® with every meal, as directed by your doctor. It's also important to take the proper number of tablets. If you have any questions about when to take your PRANDIN® or how much to take, be sure to call your physician. Ask your physician about the tests he or she performs to see how well your PRANDIN® is working. The tests that review your glucose levels include:

  • HbA1c, which examines glucose levels over a period of time (about 2-3 months)
  • Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) which examines glucose levels when you have not eaten for a period of time (eg, overnight)
  • Postprandial plasma glucose (PPG), which reflects aftermeal glucose levels.

Together, these 3 tests present a complete picture of how well your glucose levels are controlled.

Getting support from family and friends
Friends and family can be especially helpful in your efforts to manage your condition. If you have problems or concerns about your condition, it sometimes helps to share them with a special friend or family member.

The flexibility of PRANDIN® dosing
PRANDIN® allows you to plan your medication around your meals, rather than planning your meals around your medication. Just think of PRANDIN® as part of your daily plan for diabetes management.

The recommended dose range is 0.5 mg to 4 mg taken with meals. Patients who skip a meal (or add an extra meal) should be instructed to skip (or add) a dose for that meal. The maximum recommended daily dose is 16 mg.

Remember to store PRANDIN® in the bottle it came in with the lid on tight and throw away unused tablets after the expiration date on the label. Do not store above 25° C (77° F). Protect from moisture. As with all medications, keep it out of the reach of children.
