Expanding the Focus

Expanding the focus of diabetes management

ACE/AACE* Consensus Conference Guidelines underscore the importance of establishing new goals for patients with type 2 diabetes-including PPG.

— American College of Endocrinology Consensus Statement on Guidelines for Glycemic Control. Based on Consensus Development Conference, Washington, DC, August 20 and 21, 2001. Endocrine Practice. 2002.

The panel recommends:

  • HbA1c be universally adopted as the primary assessment of glycemic control-a goal of < 6.5%
  • Laboratory assessment of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) - should target a value of <110 mg/dL

Plus:
Targeted 2-hour postprandial glucose (PPG) level of <140 mg/dL

The ACE/AACE consensus panel guidelines now underscore the importance of PPG
